Ugly cat?

One of the many challenges shelter cats face worldwide is being ‘ugly’. But in other countries different people have different tastes, so even the ‘ugly’ cats get a chance to be noticed, loved and adopted.

Nova is a sweet female persian cat that has been living at K’S PATH. Her crime is that she looks special and not like other Persian cats. But it seems like in Kuwait everyone has the same taste and she is labeled as ‘UGLY’. How sad is that?

What are the beauty standards that we are looking for? Or is it more about having the ‘perfect’ cat. Are we perfect? Don’t we get dead cells accumulated in  the corner of our eyes when we wake up every morning? Do we not have marks and scars on our faces left by teenage acne? Do we not have thick lips and we want thin ones or vice versa? Are we perfect?

Why do we want our cats to be perfect? What’s ugly and what is beautiful? May be try and look again at all the imperfections these beautiful cats have and really look at them again, and again, and yet again until you see the beauty in these imperfections?

I read the ‘My Next Cat Will Be the Most-Unadoptable Ever’ article on Catster exactly 3 months ago on July 11th, and thought how great it would be if we had people like the woman who wrote the article everywhere and specially in Kuwait. But I also thought that it is a sacrifice for someone to get an imperfect cat. After all who would unconditionally adopt and love a shelter cat that nobody else wanted? Back then it sounded like a very tough decision to make. It didn’t occur to me that it was just a decision. It didn’t need me to be brave. It didn’t require any courage or arrangements. It wasn’t even a sacrifice! I just needed to make a decision! Decide to adopt a cat that does not have a chance at all to be adopted. That nobody wanted or would ever want him or her. Nobody finds them interesting, playful, beautiful, furry, sweet, fluffy or whatever.

And as soon as I started my search for that unwanted cat, I was referred to Nova – thank you Jo.

A female persian cat that has been at K’S PATH really forever and she’s been waiting for years for someone to come for her, a special one to notice how beautiful she is. Beautiful like a princess. Beautiful like a star that shines only on a moonless night.

She is so beautiful!

Our only hurdle right now is that we have a dog and a cat. If they seem to be getting along with Nova and Nova accepts them, then she is coming home with us.
